News / Alzheimer’s meeting
ALZHEIMER Scotland is holding a public meeting on Wednesday to form a local group in Shetland that can raise awareness and understanding of dementia in the isles.
Dementia affects around 400 people in Shetland, but that figure is estimated to rise dramatically over the next few years.
Alzheimer’s disease is the main form of dementia, followed by vascular dementia, and as yet there is no cure.
Fiona Roberts, Alzheimer Scotland’s regional manager for Grampian, Tayside and Shetland, will provide information on the role of branches within the charity.
Shetland’s dementia development manager Alan Murdoch and local dementia advisor Ann Williamson will talk about local activities and opportunities that make a difference.
The meeting will be held between 7.30 and 9pm in the learning room of the Shetland Museum and Archives.
