News / Ferry disruption
ESSENTIAL maintenance on the two Yell Sound piers at Toft and Ulsta will disrupt the ferry service during a three week period starting on 20 November.
A reduced timetable (click here for details) will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
A council spokesman said: “We appreciate that this will cause significant disruption to ferry users, and apologise to those affected. However, this maintenance work is essential to the future of operations of the service.
“We have considered timing the work ‘out of hours’, but regrettably that would significantly increase the cost of the project which is untenable in the current financial climate.”
Meanwhile the ferry Linga will be removed from the Whalsay service on Monday 19 November for essential maintenance.
All going to plan she will return to service for Friday 23 November. The Fivla will replace Linga for the period.
