THE MAN who will lead Lerwick’s Up Helly Aa celebrations in the year 2028 was elected unopposed at a mass meeting held in the town’s Garrison Theatre on Tuesday.

Manager of both the Clickimin Leisure Complex and the successful Whalsay football team Robert Geddes has a long history of involvement with the annual fire festival that these days draws the eyes of the world.

In 1991 Geddes was Junior Guizer Jarl, while his father Robert led the Vikings through the streets of the town at the head of the galley in 1973.

A long time torch boy, he has also been in three senior jarl squads.
