News / Brae woodchip heat scheme
A SMALL biomass heating cabin that will form the centrepiece of a district heating scheme in Brae has been given the green light by planners on Tuesday.
The project to be fuelled by wood chips is one of a series of smaller district heating schemes operated by local business man Angus Grains.
His company Northfish already operates a similar scheme in Mid Yell connecting the local junior high school and adjacent leisure centre.
The Brae district heating scheme will initially include the health centre, the leisure centre and the pavilion next to the all weather football pitch.
The 12 metre by 3.5 metre unmanned clad heating cabin will be constructed on the car park next to the football pitch.
Earlier in October, the 195 kilowatt Brae district heating scheme received a government loan worth £220,000.
The Scottish government said the project had the potential to expand to the local high school, the care centre as well as a housing estate.
