News / Most northerly barber shop
THE OWNER of the country’s most northerly barber shop has been presented with his accreditation from the British Barbers Association (BBA) by isles MP Alistair Carmichael.
Having had a barber’s shop at North Road in Lerwick for a number of years, Alan Reed is now barbering on Fridays and Saturdays from premises within the Brae Hotel, in Brae.
He said joining the BBA was part of a drive to improve standards in the men’s hairdressers and shaving trade.
The certificate he has been presented with shows the public that his business has a standard accepted by the association.
“There are only about 1,000 accredited barbers in the county. I am keen to get barbering up again to a standard it had back in the forties and fifties. That’s why I am proud to have received this accreditation,” Mr Reed said.
