News / Last chance for Couper
A YOUNG Shetland man who has been causing mayhem throughout the isles was given one last chance to sort himself out when he appeared from custody before Lerwick Sheriff Court, on Wednesday afternoon.
Trevor Couper, with an address of Young Offenders Institution Polmont, pled guilty to a string of violent assaults in Lerwick and Mossbank between 10 March and 20 May this year.
He also admitted breaching bail conditions, a previously imposed community payback order and a restriction of liberty order.
The 19-year-old escaped going to jail after the court heard that he had already spent 136 days in custody, the equivalent of a nine-month prison sentence.
Instead he was put under supervision for the next three years, and was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation of £575 to his four victims.
He was told to reappear before the court on 12 December for a first progress review of the supervision order.
Sheriff Valerie Johnston told Couper: “You say you want to sort yourself out, and this is your chance to do this.”
His co-accused Ryan Williamson, of 14 Sandside, Mossbank, had previously pled guilty to one charge of assault. The 21 year old was fined £340 and ordered to pay £100 in compensation.
