Letters / Importance of fishing industry
The statistics produced by Dr Ian Napier (Fewer fish, higher value, SN, 27 Sep 2012) emphasise the importance of our fishing industry to Shetland and Scotland in terms of economic sustainability.
Significant landings from non-Shetland boats reflects the excellent freight service we have and hope to maintain, as well as an efficient marketing facility through the electronic auction system.
The comparative figures on landings with England, Wales and N. Ireland are astonishing.
This is something which should be continually re-iterated by us to both our governments and MP/MSPs.
