News / Weather disruptions
MONDAY night’s southbound ferry crossing from Lerwick to Aberdeen will bypass Orkney, as the first of the autumn gales disrupt ferry services in the northern isles.
While Shetland is set to escape the worst of the weather, forecasters predict easterly gale to severe gale force winds, perhaps touching storm force 10, for the northern North Sea.
Ferry operator NorthLink said on Monday morning that the Hrossey will depart Lerwick at 5.30pm as scheduled and will be sailing straight to Aberdeen.
The Hjaltland, sailing north, is unaffected by the change and will leave Aberdeen at 7pm.
Meanwhile, NorthLink’s cargo vessels Hildasay and Helliar will both stay in port.
Hildasay’s sailing from Kirkwall to Aberdeen on Monday afternoon has been cancelled as has Helliar’s sailing from Aberdeen to Kirkwall, on Monday morning.
