NORTHERN Isles MP Alistair Carmichael has been appointed deputy leader of the Scottish LibDems.
The 47 year old MP succeeds East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson who has just been made equalities minster in the Westminster coalition government.
Mr Carmichael is the deputy chief whip in the government, and has been representing Shetland and Orkney since 2001.
