News / Town centre regeneration
A TOWN centre regeneration scheme in Shetland has been declared an example for others to follow.
The Living Lerwick project is being used as a good practice guide for developing BID (Business Improvement District) plans throughout Scotland.
The project got the endorsement of a large majority of shop owners earlier this year and is now preparing a number of initiatives to make Lerwick’s historic town centre more attractive.
This includes:
• customer care courses,
• a winter festival and
• a competition for the October school holidays.
Living Lerwick chairman Harry Jamieson said they were open to suggestions for additional projects which would make Lerwick town centre better.
“I’m really happy we are getting off to such a great start. These are exciting times for Lerwick Town Centre. Things are moving fast and we’ve got an enthusiastic team of Directors to make it all happen,” he added.
