News / Skerries school closes
SKERRIES school is likely to stay closed next week following a disagreement between some of the parents, pupils and the head teacher.
Director of children services Helen Budge could not be contacted on Friday evening but she had earlier in the day confirmed to Radio Shetland that it would take some time to organise supply teachers after the head of the school had left the island.
She told the local radio station: “We find ourselves in a position where we are unable to offer education in Skerries at the moment.
“The school won’t be open next week, but we are going to work with the parents and the staff to ensure we provide education for our young folk in Skerries as soon as we can.”
Skerries School has six pupils, three in primary and three in its secondary department.
