Letters / Lost opportunity
When I read a story like this (Hopes for weekend Mareel opening dashed, SN, 15 Aug 12) I feel so very sorry for the folk involved that must have laid out hard cash and time and effort to organise this gig.
It also puts Shetland in a very poor light when such a major act has agreed to come up here to launch the Mareel and then the venue cannot get ready to handle it. Embarrassing actually.
I had no intention of going along, but I am sure there were very many who would have done and had a fabulous time.
I am in support of the Mareel and am extremely disappointed that this has happened. Under these circumstances – are the promoters compensated? Therefore Shetland paying out cash, quite reasonably, for a non-event….?
Is it not a bit late in the day to discover snagging issues for signing off the completion certificate? And could they really not be resolved, if folk worked together, before the gig?
What a lost opportunity for the venue and Shetland – very sad indeed.
