News / Disruption on Bluemull Sound
FERRY services between Yell, Unst and Fetlar are currently down to a one ferry operation after the service was suspended for about two hours first thing on Tuesday morning.
Colin Manson of the council’s ferry service said the port engine starter of the ferry Bigga burnt out when the crew were about the launch the ferry into service.
The 6.20am and 6.50am from Gutcher and the 6.35am and 7.05am from Belmont were subsequently cancelled.
Meanwhile, the Fetlar based crew of the Geira had been brought into service early to stand in while the Bigga is undergoing some emergency repairs.
The Geira is operating a Saturday winter timetable until the Bigga can be brought back into service, expected to be at 1.45pm.
