News / Mid Brae Inn half open again
THE MID Brae Inn has reopened to half capabilities after a devastating kitchen fire in late April this year.
The blaze started after an electrical fault in a boiler, and completely destroyed the popular inn’s kitchen and smoke damaged the rest of the building.
Following endless hours of cleaning and refurbishing work, the pub is serving customers again since last Thursday, but renovation is still under way in the restaurant.
Diane Davies, co-owner of the pub, said: “We’ve had a long wait to try and get it sorted. We’ve done this off our own backs, getting it up and running. It’s not quite finished, but it’s nearly there.”
The pub still requires work, such as new dartboards, curtains, leathering and refurbishing the pool table.
Ms Davies added: “There’s not much decoration in here yet, but it’s functional, it’s fine, it’s clean and it’s good.”
“We’ve seen quite a few of the faces coming back across the door. They’ve seemed to have missed it, so it’s good they’re coming back.”
How long the restaurant will remain closed for is still uncertain, as owners Ms Davies and Andrea Manson experience difficulties in getting an acceptable quote for the refurbishment of the lounge.
