News / Broadband project progress
SHETLAND Telecom moves ahead with the next phase of its project to improve broadband services across the isles after the council’s planning committee approved an application to install four small street cabinets at junctions between the Brig O’Fitch and Sella Ness.
The street cabinets, each 12cm by 33cm in size, form part of a project to provide “fixed linked broadband” services to council properties throughout Shetland.
The cabinets are required to enable future extensions to the network and are located at road junctions.
The Shetland Islands Council owned company has just connected to the Faroese SHEFA2 fibre optic cable as part of its ambition to give Shetland high speed reliable broadband connections.
