Letters / A long way to go yet

I apologise to Tony Erwood for using the words wind turbine technology (Andrew didn’t understand; 5/5/12). I should have said wind power technology.

At various times in history people have thought that technology had reached its limits. When the ancient Greeks invented the torsion catapult, it was considered at the time to be the ultimate military device and it was difficult to see how warfare could advance further.

I believe there are more ways to reach the optimum in utilising wind power than having a massive propeller whirling away on top of a huge tower embedded in 2,500 tons of concrete.

If we only look at one method to produce power, it will severely hinder development. Innovations in almost every field are accelerating at a faster rate now than at any time in history.
