News / Substantial objection
SCOTTISH charity regulator OSCR has received “a substantial number” of objections to Shetland Charitable Trust’s plans to re-organise.
The consultation into reducing the number of trustees, removing the council’s majority and appointing eight selected trustees closed last Friday.
The trust manages around £200 million of community funds – Shetland’s oil money – and distributes around £11 million annually to help others run the isles’ care homes, voluntary sector, arts, recreational and amenity services.
Following changes to Scottish charity law, the trust has been told to remove council control of its board.
On Tuesday, an OSCR spokesman said the regulator had received 68 objections and would now make a summary of points raised available to the trust for comment.
Once that is received OSCR will decide whether or not to approve the charitable trust’s proposals for change.
The charity regulator has until 19 October this year to make its decision.
