Letters / Lowes agrees with Tinkler
It is not often I find myself in complete agreement with Ian Tinkler, when he says of voters “Real people are not swayed by a vocal minority, however vociferous.” (SN, Only sheep follow the herd.)
He is right, real people are not swayed by noisy or angry minorities. They look for candidates with vision and with conviction to serve this community well and help determine its future. They do not sit on fences (or peat banks either) for that matter and they do not mount personal attacks on their opponents, but are happy to engage in civil debate and abide by the rules of democrats, rather than demagogues.
Members of my family are keen to see Shetland take economic advantage of the renewables industry that is keen to develop wind, wave and tidal resources that we have a-plenty, so that this community can thrive and prosper through the 21st Century and continue to be a prosperous community of good folk, who make it a great community in which to live. We will not be casting ballots for candidates who are reticent about the enormous opportunity this can bring and prevaricate over the interconnector cable we need to export this bounty to the south, where it is sorely needed.
Sorry Ian, I guess you have lost all our votes; so has any sheepish candidates wanting to follow the noisy herd that have tried unsuccessfully to stop Viking unlocking this community’s future prosperity.
