News / Mother imprisoned for heroin supply
A SHETLAND mother who was caught up in a sophisticated heroin dealing operation was jailed for almost three years at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Trudi Thomson, aged 28, previously of 73 Gilbertson Road, Lerwick, appeared from custody after previously admitting being concerned in the supply of the class A drug at her home and in Virkie throughout May and June last year.
Last month the court heard that Thomson received packages of heroin delivered to her mother’s house where she picked them up for a dealer.
On Wednesday defence agent Tommy Allan said all his client had received for her pains was heroin to feed her own habit, which had developed as a result of her relationship. He said she was now clean of drugs and intended to stay that way.
Mr Allan said Thomson had been diagnosed with mental health problems and was suffering from depression at the time of the offence.
However Sheriff Philip Mann said that he saw nothing in this case that allowed him to keep her from prison.
He jailed her for a total of 32 months, including two months for failing to appear in court on 21 March this year.
