Letters / Another open letter to trustees
Now that the Scottish government has given the Viking Energy project permission to go ahead and develop, please make sure you attend the meeting of the Shetland Charitable Trust on Monday to agree a new financing package to take this project to the next stage.
This project is going to be massively important for this community and if the charitable trust fails to meet its share of the next round of development financing, the other partners will fill the gap and Shetland’s share of the project will be diluted, giving us far less control over the development.
This is not the time for complacency. We must secure Shetland’s interest in this project and through this, influence the development on behalf of the people of Shetland.
Please make sure you attend this vital meeting and ensure our major stake in the project is not diluted. We need this development to happen to secure a renewables future for Shetland and to exploit wave and tidal power as well as wind as an energy resource.
