News / Free insulation
SHETLAND Islands Council will receive £300,000 from the Scottish government for this financial year to help islanders insulate their homes free of charge.
The new Universal Home Insulation Scheme (UHIS) will be administered through local firm Shetland Heatwise and offers free loft, as well as cavity and solid wall insulation.
The council’s executive manager for environmental health, Maggie Dunne, said the scheme would also pay for topping up existing loft insulation and “enabling work” to get access to lofts in crofthouses.
These measures can help households improve their energy efficiency, keep heating bills down and reduce fuel poverty.
Ms Dunne said she was delighted that the government has extended the previous insulation scheme.
Shetland Heatwise can be contacted on 01595 696508.
