Letters / Dependent on Freefield Centre
I sympathise with the person sent home from the Freefield Centre because of her comment in the weekly paper.
Having reached senior years and enjoy a bit more active over 60’s club at Islesburgh myself, there are many others who enjoy their visits to Freefield for a meal, conversation and most of all to get out and about.
There is this conception that we don’t need much and are happy to stay indoors.
Those who have a loving and attentive family or friends in weekly contact are fortunate indeed, but clearly there are very many, especially in Shetland, with few options of social or family contact, and who are solely dependent on a place like Freefield Centre.
I do hope councillors think on how it could be for any of them in later years to be alone and experience how these regular visits to a centre is important to their wellbeing.
Respect should be given to a deserving generation in a small previously British Legion occupied building.
