A spectacular display of the northern lights, caused by the largest solar storm in five years earlier this month, was finally visible in Shetland when the cloud cover lifted last night (Thursday).
The mirrie dancers were at their best between 8 and 9pm. Local photographers Chris Brown (seen from Trondra) and Ivan Hawick (seen from Nesting) sent in these great pictures:
