Letters / Fiver a day to feed a teenager

In response to the recent letter to Shetland News from Janice Pottinger, Halls of Residence charge outrageous , SN, 15 March 12,  I am pleased that Janice had such a positive experience during her time residing and working at the hostel.

This echoes the sentiments of many friends of mine.  I trust that such a life enhancing experience will be afforded to many more in generations to come.

I do however feel that some clarity is required on the proposed SIC charges to hostel residents.

As I understand it the £5 per day is not for the privilege of accessing a higher education but is solely to pay for meals.  This is an expense parents would incur if their children were living at home.  I certainly wish I could feed wir two teenagers for a fiver.
