SHETLAND’S schools had another good year in 2011 at the exam table, according to figures being presented to Shetland Islands Council’s families and education committee on Wednesday.

A total of 619 students sat 3,433 exams last year with:

87 per cent of advanced higher students achieving grade C or better in at least one subject (up from 67 per cent in 2010);
80 per cent of higher level students achieving grade C or better in at least one subject (same as 2010);
five per cent of higher candidates achieving at least one A grade (same as 2010);
60 per cent of standard grade candidates achieving a credit grade or better in at least one subject (58 per cent in 2010);
84 per cent of Intermediate 2 candidates achieving grade C or better in at least one subject (up to 2 per cent on 2010);
a four per cent increase in people achieving at least one A grade at Internediate 2.
