News / Embroidered bathers
A QUIRKY quilt of demure bathing belles is being raffled in aid of the highly successful Shetland Swimming Association as part of the latest exhibition at the museum and archives.
The museum’s exhibition space Da Gadderie opens this coming weekend with a display of work by Shetland Needleworkers, with more entries than ever ranging from quilts and hangings, to pictures, cushions, boxes and bags.
Members have each hand sewn one of the bathing beauties featured on the quilt to help Shetland’s talented swimmers with their considerable travel costs to comepet on the mainland.
Also on display will be the trophies for the Shetland Challenge competition to encourage and promote original needlework. Entry forms will be available at the exhibition.
The Needleworkers’ group meet twice monthly at Islesburgh for classes or workshops and can be contacted through Sheila Peterson on 01806 577321.
The exhibition at the museum’s Da Gadderie runs from 11 February to 18 March.
