News / Youth gig for local hall
BIXTER Hall will host the first ‘youth event’ organised by a new junior committee trying to make Shetland local halls more attractive to young people.
Local bands Casino Feet, Comet Conspiracy and the Metacarpals, newly formed improvising group Notion Circus, as well as a “surprise act” have all been booked for Friday 20 January, starting at 6.30pm.
Tickets will be £2, also covering the cost of food and soft drinks. The event lasts until 10pm and transport from various youth clubs is being arranged.
Lauren Peterson has been employed on a Shetland islands Council graduate placement scheme to get young people more involved in their local halls.
“This event was recognised as a way that may help tackle the issue of underage drinking. It is being held in the hope that it will achieve a more positive attitude towards youths in Shetland surrounding alcohol and its presence at music type events,” she said.
Cara McDiarmid, a member of the young people’s committee, added: “I’m so excited about the youth gig! It’s great to be able to organise events in halls that other young people actually want to attend, and the support that we’ve had has been amazing.
“The line up is looking really good as well; it’s much more varied than other youth gigs. Hopefully we’ll get a good turnout!”
