News / Two under curfew over break in charges

TWO Shetland men have been placed on a curfew for almost three weeks after appearing in Lerwick Sheriff Court charged with a breaking into a cafe and attempting to break into a shop in the town.

Both 26 year old Steven Irvine, who gave his address as care of 162 Sandveien, Lerwick, and 22 year old James Garson, of Summerside, Walls, made no plea and were released on bail.

The pair appeared in court from custody on Friday to be charged with breaking into the New Harbour Café, at 2 Merran Moad Steps, Lerwick, and using a “true key” to open the safe and steal around £150.

They are also charged with attempting to break into Lochside Stores, on Lochside, Lerwick, with intent to steal. Both offences are alleged to have taken place on Thursday.

The case was continued without plea until 25 January, until when both men must stay at their home address between 9pm and 7am every day.
