News / Sober festive driving
SHETLAND police congratulated islanders for their behaviour over the festive period after no arrests were made for drink driving, an almost unprecedented event.
Officers said there had also been a decline in violent crime and breaches of the peace.
Inspector Eddie Graham said that there had been high profile policing carried out in the isles as part of the force-wide Operation Luminous, which saw as many as 10 officers supported by the drugs sniffer dog visiting licensed premises at peak periods.
Inspector Graham said: “There have been quite a number of people breath tested, however I am glad to say that no one has actually been formally reported.
“Hopefully people were heeding the message over the festive period and they were either having an allocated driver, taking a taxi or walking.”
