News / Kildrummy returns to its roots

A SHETLAND-based computer software company helping oil companies manage multi-billion dollar projects worldwide has returned to its roots.

The Shetland partners in Kildrummy have taken over 100 per cent control of the company after buying out shares owned by two former directors based in England.

The company’s board of directors now consists of founder Ken Beer, Valerie Polson and Barnaby Mercer. The company employs 19 people, with 12 based in Lerwick, and others working from London and Houston, Texas.

Kildrummy was established around 20 years ago supplying software to major oil companies to help manage costs. Their flagship product Kildrummy CostMANAGER controls well over one trillion dollars of project spending.

Mr Beer said: “I have dreamt of bringing the company back home to Shetland for a couple of decades now. It’s good to succeed in this. Many local staff have been with us all their working lives. This is, in a very real sense, their company.”
