News / Sutherland wind farm approved
A LARGE wind farm in the north of Scotland has been granted approval by the Scottish government.
The Strathy North wind farm will generate 75.9 megawatts using 33 turbines a few miles south of the village of Strathy, in Sutherland.
The SSE Renewables project is expected to give the local community £3.5 million over its 25 year life.
There were 166 objections to the plan and eight letters of support. Highland Council supported the application.
There are currently 29 wind farm applications, including Shetland’s Viking Energy, with the government awaiting a decision.
