FRIDAY night’s Children in Need appeal has raised almost £22,000 in Shetland.

Almost £9,000 alone brought in the auction with the most expensive being a NorthLink’s  trip for two that went for £430. Fund raising efforts in the community raised another £13,000.

Across Scotland £2.2 million pounds was raised.

Co-ordinator for the appeal in Scotland, Fraser Falconer said he found it “incredible” that almost one pound per head of population was raised in the islands.

Local BBC station manager John Johnston said: “I would like to thank everybody across Shetland for raising so much money for the appeal, the many individuals and businesses who donated auction items and the musicians who gave up their time for  the seven hour live programme.”
