News / More oil out west

SURREY based oil company Hurricane Exploration plc has confirmed that their Whirlwind discovery, west of Shetland, could hold as much as 373 million barrels of oil equivalent in light oil and gas, and up to 301 million barrels of oil equivalent in gas condensate.

Chief executive Robert Trice said: “The discovery of light oil/condensate at Whirlwind is extremely good news as it is located in close proximity to our Lancaster basement discovery and further reinforces Hurricane’s presence in the West of Shetland.

“However, the true significance of Whirlwind to the region will have to wait until further evaluation of the data is completed followed by targeted appraisal drilling.”

The company has 100 per cent ownership of the Whirlwind field, which is just over 100 kilometres to the west of the isles.
