News / Local halls need young blood
SHETLAND Islands Council is employing a young graduate to come up with ideas of how to get young people involved in the running of local halls.
Lauren Peterson said that an influx of young people were seen as “absolutely vital” to ensure the survival of the isles 51 halls. Currently, the survival of local halls depends on the voluntary input of around 1,000 islanders.
She said that she was hoping to be able to set up a number of ‘junior committees’ for young people to have a voice in what they would like to see happening in their local hall.
“By giving young people the chance to come together in their communities and discuss what events they would like held in their local halls will lead to vibrant communities where the interests of a range of its inhabitants are catered for,” she said.
