News / Trial date set for alleged assault

A SEVENTEEN year old Lerwick teenager was remanded in custody after he appeared before the town’s sheriff court on a charge of assault committed while on bail.

Shaun Laurence Smith pled not guilty to assaulting a woman at his home address of 12 Ladies Drive by pushing her down a flight of stairs, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Trial was set for 6 October with an intermediate diet the day before.

Meanwhile, the case against three men fighting with each other at the Hillhead, in Lerwick, in the early hours of Sunday, was continued without plea until 5 October.

Daniel James Nicolson, aged 21, with an address at 46 North Lochside, Lerwick, Stuart George Smith, aged 19, with an address at 101 Sandveien, and Gavin Robert Colvin, Beach View, Levenwick, were all released on bail after appearing from custody before Lerwick Sheriff Court, on Monday.

Nicolson is also charged with assaulting Colvin by knocking him to the ground outside Posers’ nightclub, during the same night.
