News / Fined for New Years Day send off
A POLISH man who used a plastic baseball bat to scare away two young men from his house was fined £450 at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Marcin Olejniczak, aged 33, of 7 Pitt Lane, Lerwick, admitted threatening behaviour on New Years Day this year when he wielded the bat at the two men.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said Olejniczak was “a prime example of a dual personality” who was intelligent, articulate and polite when sober, but prone to aggression when drunk.
Mr Mackenzie said the two men turned up at the house in Lerwick’s Haldane Burgess Crescent where Olejniczak was living with his partner, looking for her son, when he “sent them away in a robust manner, putting it mildly”.
Defence agent Tommy Allan pointed out that the baseball bat he had been wielding was made of plastic and had a sponge cover at the time. He offered to show the court what was left of the weapon, which had since been largely chewed up by the partner’s dog.
