News / Truck driver recovering
A SHETLAND truck driver who came off the road during a heavy downpour is recovering in hospital.
The man, who works for RS Henderson hauliers, of Yell, was driving on the A968 from the Toft ferry terminal when his vehicle landed in a ditch on a bend four miles north of Voe around 12.20pm on Friday.
Fire crews from Lerwick and Brae attended the scene and cleared a fence to allow paramedics to gain access to the driver, who was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital where he is being kept in overnight. His condition is described as “stable”.
Police closed the road all afternoon while efforts were made to recover the lorry, forcing drivers to take a detour through Brae.
