News / Both lifeboats called out

SHETLAND’S two lifeboats were called out on Friday evening to assist in two separate incidents.

Lerwick lifeboat was launched just before midnight to go to the Fraserburgh whitefish boat Phoenix, which was drifting towards Hay’s Dock in Lerwick harbour.

However, the vessel’s pair trawling partner Falcon was able to take the Phoenix under tow.

The Falcon was then assisted by the harbour’s pilot boat Knab, which took the stricken vessel to Holmsgarth, where the whitefish fleet is berthed for the duration of the Tall Ships visit.

Earlier the same evening, the Aith lifeboat was called out to go to the assistance of the small creel boat Rona which had suffered engine failure in Papa Sound.

The Rona with one crew on board was taken under tow and berthed safely at West Burrafirth.
