Teenager airlifted after cliff fall
A TEENAGER sustained minor injuries when he fell down a 25 foot cliff near Cunningsburgh, on Wednesday.
The young man alerted coastguards by calling 999 and volunteer coastguard teams were dispatched to search the area between Cunningsburgh and Sandwick. The coastguard helicopter was also scrambled.
He was eventually found near the southend of Cunningsburgh and airlifted to a nearby road where he was taken by a waiting ambulance to the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
Hospital re-connected
SCOTTISH Hydro Electric has reconnected Lerwick’s Gilbert Bain Hospital to the mains electricity supply, three days after the power went off.
The hospital has been powered by a generator since early on Sunday.
A hospital spokeswoman said Hydro Electric workers had identified the fault in a main cable outside the hospital campus. Mains power was restored by 8pm on Tuesday evening.
Chief executive Ralph Roberts said: “There has been very little disruption and in the main it has been business as usual.
“For the small number of patients who were affected, which resulted in rescheduling of their appointments, I want to thank them for their understanding and I am sorry that they were affected by this incident.”
