News / Crash victim flown to Aberdeen
A MAN is being flown to hospital in Aberdeen after being involved in a head on car crash on Shetland’s west side on Friday afternoon.
A rented Renault Clio was driving north towards the head of Weisdale Voe when it hit a Subaru as it travelled in the opposite direction on the A971 near Kalliness.
Local hospital consultant Ken Graham was on the scene within minutes, and was soon backed up by another doctor and a local nurse, as well as police and an ambulance.
Fire crews were called out from Lerwick and Scalloway and they used cutting gear to remove the driver of the Subaru, who was later flown to Aberdeen due to the severity of his leg injuries.
The other driver was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital for treatment.
The road was closed to traffic for around two hours.
