Shetland_swimmers

THE final days of the Scottish National Age Group Championships, held in Glasgow, saw more good results and strong performances from all ten young swimmers representing Shetland at the event. In total they won one silver and five bronze medals and managed to get into most finals.

Outstanding athlete was Donnie Price from the South Mainland Swimming Club who won a silver medal in the 1,500 metres freestyle and two bronze medals in the 400 metres and the 800 metres freestyle events for 14 year old boys.

Amy Harper, from Lerwick, claimed her second bronze medal on Saturday, when she came third in the 100 metres freestyle finals. She had already won a bronze in the 800 metres freestyle, on Friday.

Andrea Strachan, also from Lerwick, won a bronze medal when she came third in the 16-18 year old girls’ 100 metre breaststroke final on Thursday night.

The same night, 16 year old Felix Gifford, of Delting Dolphins, very narrowly missed out on a place on the podium after finishing the 200 metre butterfly competition in fourth place.

Felix Gifford and Callum Macgregor went head to head in the final of the 16-18 year old boys’ 100 metre freestyle; on this occasion Felix narrowly beat Callum by just two tenths of a second to finish 5th with Callum 6th.

The Shetland swimmers were Calum MacCall, Felix Gifford and Logan Jamieson of Delting Dolphins; Donnie Price and Eddie Price of South Mainland Swimming Club; and Amy Harper, Andrea Strachan, Callum Macgregor, Sarah Williamson and Megan Petursdottir of Lerwick Swimming Club.
