News / Aberdeen man swallowed £20k heroin haul

AN ABERDEEN man who admitted trying to smuggle heroin worth £20,000 into Shetland is likely to be sent to prison, Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Thursday.

Simon Macdonald, aged 37, of 134 Garthdee Road, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug after being stopped at the NorthLink ferry terminal, at Holsmgarth, Lerwick, on 21 October last year.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said that Macdonald had internally concealed nine packages containing 140.5 grammes of heroin.

Sentence was deferred for reports until 23 March, but Macdonald was told that he no longer needed to adhere to bail conditions that he report every day at Grampian police headquarters and stay at home every night.
