News / Blaze damages whitefish boat
A WHITEFISH trawler berthed at Scalloway harbour was damaged in a blaze on Monday night.
Fire crews from Scalloway and Lerwick were called out at just after 9pm to tackle a fire in the galley of the Peterhead registered fishing boat Our Guide.
Fire control said that the vessel sustained smoke damage throughout with a two square metre area in the galley being damaged by fire.
Crews used two hose reel jets and four sets of breathing apparatus to put the blaze out.
There was initially fear for two crew members but it turned out that they alerted the emergency services as they had not been on board when the fire broke out.
The Our Guide was in Scalloway as it had been bought as a replacement vessel for the local whitefish boat Quiet Waters.
