FIVE full-time and four part-time jobs are under threat at the Da Haaf restaurant, in Scalloway, after directors decided to close the eatery due to lack of business.
The restaurant, located within the NAFC Marine Centre, will continue to stay open during the next weeks while management consults the nine staff on their future.
It is likely that the canteen facility for college’s staff and students will continue to operate.
College director Professor David Gray said staff had been told earlier this week that the company would cease trading.
He said: “Until the consultation process is completed we don’t know exactly when the door will finally close. At the moment it is open for business and we do have bookings for this evening.
“First and foremost out thoughts have to be with our employees to make sure that they treated fairly. We are doing everything we can to ensure that they have had every opportunity to feed back on the process and on any potential options.”
He added that the restaurant had become a victim of tough economic times but was also losing business due to increased competition.
“Unfortunately, Da Haaf r estaurant has not been viable despite the quality of its food and service, which resulted in very positive feedback from its customers,” he added.
