LFT shortlisted

SHETLAND salmon firm Grieg Seafood Hjaltland, who run the LFT fish factory at Gremista, Lerwick, have been shortlisted in four categories of the Highland & Island Food and Drink Awards 2010.

The company has already won a host of awards in the past three years, including this year’s Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

Now it has been shortlisted for the environment, new business, innovation and new product awards in the regional contest, the winners of which will be announced at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on 29 October. The company won the environmental category in 2008.

Briggs’ Shetland Lamb has also been shortlisted in the new product and ‘distance no object’ section.

Shetland is not on he secretary’s agenda, but a government spokesman said Mr Swinney may still come north later this month to discuss a range of issues.

If he does come to Shetland it will not be as part of his current tour where he will meet business, community and voluntary groups to discuss how Scotland should meet its spending challenges.

The Scottish government’s budget is to shrink by £3.7 billion over the next four years due to Westminster cuts, he said.
