News / Second man remanded

A LIVERPOOL man was remanded in custody after he appeared in private before Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday, charged with contravening the Misuse of Drugs Act and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Appearing from custody, 39 year old David Garnett, of Lawrence Road, made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination.

Garnett had been arrested last week after police seized class A drugs with a potential street value of £21,500 at the Holmsgarth ferry terminal, in Lerwick.

A second man arrested in the operation appeared in private before the court on Friday, charged contravening the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Thomas Mcaleavey, 47, of Wye Street, Liverpool, was also remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again next week.
