News / Award for Arthur
SHETLAND singer songwriter Arthur Nicholson has won a Danny Kyle award at this year’s Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow.
Nicholson only found out on Tuesday that he had been given a slot on the festival’s open stage on Friday at Adelaide’s, his first ever solo performance outside of the islands.
His neat finger picking and catchy songs earned Nicholson, who released his classy debut CD Sticks and Stones late last year, one of six ‘Danny’ awards.
It means he follows in father Brian Nicholson’s footsteps, a previous winner with his musical partner, fiddler Maggie Adamson.
Nicholson appeared alongside the other five winning acts at a two hour showcase at Adelaide’s on Saturday afternoon, where he reeled off immaculate versions of his songs Ready to Go, Part of the Frame and Go For It to handsome applause in the packed church building.
The award also entitles Nicholson to a support slot for one of the ticketed concerts at the 2015 Celtic Connections.
