Flotta oil terminal

ORKNEY’S Flotta oil terminal has won its most significant piece of business since it was taken over by Talisman Energy in May 2000.

On Thursday Talisman signed a deal for Flotta to provide transport and processing for the £2.2 billion Golden Eagle project, which is estimated to produce 140 million barrels of oil over 18 years beginning in late 2014.

The deal is expected to double the volume of oil handled at Flotta, which currently copes with around 10 per cent of the UK oil output.

The Golden Eagle field is operated by Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd and lies about 60 miles north east of Aberdeen.

Orkney Islands Council vice convener welcomed Thursday’s announcement, saying it would secure the terminal’s 200 jobs.
