News / Brae pool to remain closed until end of September
THE SWIMMING pool in Brae is to remain closed until the end of September due to a delay in the procurement process for repair work to its roof.
Local firm DITT has now been appointed to carry out the construction work following storm damage in December.
The pool at the North Mainland Leisure Centre was originally due to re-open in July but that date has been put back as a result of a “protracted procurement and statutory approval process”.
Shetland Recreational Trust head of assets and business support Andrew Lyall said: “DITT will commence works on Tuesday 17 July 2018 with the erection of a site access scaffold.
“Works will continue off site with the fabrication of the new roof structure which will then be installed during the month of September 2018.”
General manager James Johnston said: “We are sorry for the continued inconvenience for swimmers who wish to use the pool at Brae; staff are working to ensure that the pool re-opens at the earliest possible time, once the works commence we will keep customers up to date with progress”.
The dry side of the building remains open as normal, allowing customers to continue to use the fitness suite, steam room and squash court and attend dryside courses and classes.
