News / Recreating Scalloway?
A SERIES of workshops and events will be held next weekend to allow people to share their thoughts on how Scalloway can be developed in the future.
As previously reported, the village is one of 19 communities in Scotland to receive Scottish Government funding through its Making Places project, which brings together the public and designers to explore how their area can be improved.
On Friday 18 May and Saturday 19 May at the Scalloway Public Hall, Edinburgh-based consultants GL Hearn will host public drop-in sessions between 11am and 2pm before leading workshops between 2pm and 4pm.
On the Friday evening, there will also be a ‘walkabout’ in Scalloway between 6pm and 8pm, starting at the hall, while on Saturday there will be consultation event at the Scalloway Youth Centre cafe between 6.30pm and 10pm.
The name of the project has been titled Re-Create Scalloway following a competition at the youth centre.
More workshops will take place between 13 and 15 June to follow up initial feedback, with a draft plan due to be created in late summer.
A questionnaire for anyone interested in the future of Scalloway can also be filled in.
Local councillor and Scalloway resident Mark Burgess said: “These events are opportunities for anyone to contribute to future plans for Scalloway to make it an even better place to live, work, visit or study.
“I’d encourage folk to help shape the emerging plans by filling in the questionnaire with your thoughts, looking at the website, and coming along to one of the workshops.”
